今マウナケアで起きていることはご存知の方がほとんどかもしれません。３０メートルの天文台がマウナケアの頂上に他の１３機の天文台と並んで建てられようとしています。
Most of you might already know about the 30 meter telescope which is constructed on top of Maunakea as well as the 13 telescopes already existing.
科学の観点から見れば、宇宙のより多くのことを知る為には必要なものなのかも知れません。でも、その大地に住み、マウナケアを神殿そのものだとしている文化が生き続いているのです。その文化をもつ人々が今、立ち上がっています。それは、私たちひとりひとりが大地にたいしての想いを再認識するべき時期にあるということだと思うのです。
Scientifically, people might say we need this new high-technology telescope to know about the space and know about the world. There are, however, a culture, people and a kingdom still alive who lives closely with their temple, Mauna a Wākea. They are rising so that they can protect their temple. We all are in the time of life where we have to think about our land and re-connect ourselves spiritually to this land.
日本には富士山があります。富士山と精神的に繋がっていると想う方も多いのではないでしょうか。忙しい毎日の中で魂のつながりに目が向かない人も多いかもしれませんね。でも知らず知らずのうちにつながっているのです。そして、その”つながり”は代々築かれてきたものなのです。ハワイの人にとってはマウナケアがその”つながり”の土地のひとつなのです。
In Japan, we have Mt.Fuji. Some people might feel you are spiritually connected to this mountain. Some people might don't even realize about the connection because your life is too busy. Without knowing, however, we are connected. And that "connection" hasn't just begun. It's been there generation after generation. Maunakea is one of those strong places where you feel the "connection".
彼らが今マウナケアの上で行っていることを暴動と報じるメディアがあるかもしれませんが、彼らは自分たち人間が大地や聖地を守ることをまだ諦めていない、という祈りを大地や神々に届けるために立ち上がっています。
日本として、この天文台建設のために出資をしていることもあり、複雑な立場におかれているかもしれませんが、政府と市民、どちら側の味方をするなどという政治的な見解をみなさんとシェアしているわけではありません。ただ、何が起こっていて、ハワイの人々が何のために立ち上がっているのか、みなさんにも知っていただけたら幸いです。
Some media might broadcast as if the Hawaiian people are fighting violently. It is incorrect. They are rising because they have not given up for their sacred land and for their gods and goddesses. As Japanese, this might out you in a confused position because of the fact that Japan has been involved. But I am not here to share my political view such as which side you should take.I just want you to know what is happening in Hawaii and what Hawaiian people are standing for.
ハワイの大地に愛を、感謝を送るのに政治的立場も人種も関係ないと思います。もしみなさんがハワイの大地にエールを送りたい、と思ったら、ぜひ送ってください。きっと届きます。人間の想う気持ちはそれだけ強いものだから。
To send our love and appreciation to the land of Hawaii, your race or your political stance doesn't matter. If your naʻau tells you that you love Hawaiʻi and you want to send out your love to the land, please do so. It will reach there to Maunakea. Mana ko ka leo. The power of the voice is strong.
Aunty Pua Case は私の大切な友達のお母様でもあり、また、マウナケアの守り人でもあります。
彼女のビデオをご覧いただけたらわかる通り、ハワイの人々にとってこのマウナケアの土地は神々の土地であり、聖なる魂のつながりなのです。
Aunty Pua Case is a mother of my dear friend and also the protector of Maunakea.
As you see in this video, Maunakea is sacred for gods and goddesses and is where your spirit connects to.

We here on Mauna a Wākea would like to call out to all of our ʻohana from Japan to support us in our stance and our mission to protect the most sacred mountain in all of our lands, Mauna a Wākea. As a people of great tradition and culture, we feel that you can sympathize and understand the deep, deep hurt felt within each and every one of us due to the proposed and attempted desecration of our sacred lands. Mauna a Wākea, otherwise known as Mauna Kea, is Hawaiʻis version of Mt. Fuji. Under no circumstances do we feel development on our sacred mountain is necessary and/or pono.
私たちはMauna a Wākea（空の神ワーケアの山＝マウナケア）の上で今、活動しています。ハワイ全島の中でも最も聖なるこのマウナケアを守るためです。日本の皆さんにこの私たちの立場、状況を理解し、ぜひサポートしていただきたく、お願いいたします。私たちの大地は現在、とてつもない冒涜をうけようとしています。由緒ある伝統、そして奥深い文化を持つ日本のみなさんなら、この私たちの深い、深い悲しみを理解していただけるのではないでしょうか？マウナケアの名で知られている、Mauna a Wākeaは日本の土地では富士山のようなものです。私たちはいかなる状況においても、マウナケアや富士山のような聖なる土地の開拓は Pono(正当・正しい）ではないと思います。
Mauna a Wākea is the home and realm of many of our akua, or gods and goddesses. It is the dwelling place of Wakea, Poliahu, Kahoupokane, Waiau, Lilinoe, Lihau, Kukahauula and Mooinanea. Many of these akua are commemorated and honored in many hula and oli. We understand that the Japanese people have a very strong connection to some of our hula and oli traditions and are some of our cultures biggest supporters. We also understand that many Japanese people are here, on Hawaiʻi Island, for the Merrie Monarch Festival. We humbly and respectfully invite all of you to ascend our mountain and join us at the 9,200ft. elevation of the Mauna Kea Visitors Center to engage with us in pule, oli, hula and education.
マウナケアは私たちの文化の中で、多くの神々の住処であり、その神々の土地です。Wākea（空の神、創造の神）, Poliʻahu（マウナケアに住むといわれる雪の女神）, Kahoupokane (ハワイ島Hualalaiの山に住むといわれる雪の女神）, Waiau（リリノエ、カホウポカネと並び、ポリアフと共に生活をする神）, Lilinoe（雪の女神ポリアフの妹であり、霧の女神）, Lihau（カフナや王族の先祖ともいわれる）, Kukahauula（Kūが持つ数々の姿のひとつであり、ポリアフの恋人といわれる）, Mooinanea（すべてのモオの神々の女性指導者といわれる）など、たくさんの神々が住んでいるのです。

If you are not able to join us but would like to support us, we have Mauna a Wākea pins that we could distribute to you and you can wear those to help us in raising awareness towards our cause. These pins are white triangles with a red ribbon. The white triangle represents our sacred mountain and the red ribbon represents a letter written by our Queen, Liliʻuokalani in 1897 to U.S president McKinley protesting the annexation of Hawaiʻi to America. Because Hawaiʻi has never lawfully been annexed by the U.S, the destruction and desecration of our sacred mountain is in absolute violation of our cultural, religious and genealogical rights as well as our rights as a sovereign and independent country.

このバッジは白い三角形と赤いリボンでできています。白い三角形は私たちの聖なる山を表し、赤いリボンは私たちの女王リリウオカラニによって1897年にアメリカのマッキンリー大統領にあてて書かれた手紙を表します。その手紙の内容はハワイ王国をアメリカの領地にすることに対しての抗議のてがみですた。このようにハワイは決して合法的にアメリカの領地、そして州になった土地ではありません。だからこそ、今回のような私たちの聖なる山に対しての冒涜、破壊は私たちの文化的、精神的、系統的、また、独立国家としての権利への暴力・侵害となるのです。
Our Hawaiian Kingdom continues to have political relationships with Japan that America has violated for the past 122 years, now we would like to strengthen the relationship between the Japanese and Hawaiian people in the stance to protect sacred and cultural lands.
122年間ものあいだ、アメリカに侵害されてきた今でも、私たちのハワイ王国は日本との政治的友好関係を保っています。その友好関係はアメリカが関与する前から築き上げてきたものです。日本とハワイの日布友好関係をより強いものにしていきたいと私たちは願っています。そうすることで、双方の国の聖なる、そして、伝統深い土地が守られていくことにつながるからです。
